Shama and Money

Shirdi Sai Baba, distributed large amount of money to devotees, poor, beggar, Fakirs and needy. It is said about Rs. 500 were distributed daily by Saibaba. Tatya, Ramchandra Patil, Bade Baba, Bayaji Patil were few devotees from Shirdi, who received money from Sai Baba everyday, and grew rich with money also along with the spiritual benefit they received.

Shama (Madhavrao Despande), was however one of the devotees, like Abdul Baba and Mahalsapati, who never received money from Sai Baba. Sai Baba used to tell that money was not for them, they had a different mission. To Abdul Baba, Saibaba once said, "Tereku mitti se sona bana diya.", " Tereku Dariya par karva diya." ( "I turned you from soil to gold") (I carried you across the ocean). Saibaba in his symbolic language uttered that he transformed the soul of Abdul Baba from that compared to soil to gold. So as Sai Baba knows secrets of each individual and devotee and what is good for them, it was his decision these devotees stay away from money and it's sting. We can see in the last post about Triloka, after Showing abundance of wealth and opulence of the Dev Loka ( Divine worlds ) Saibaba had said to Shama, "Shama all this is not for us, our goal is quiet unusual."

Shama in his own characteristic way encountered Sai Baba on the same subject. He said, " Deva people say that You are compassionate and carrying. As You give the devotees whatever they want. To some you give a husband or a wife, to others children, and yet to others You give money or wealth. While I am at Your Feet all the time. Yet You give me not a pie. I can't even get money from You to buy some tobacco, How does this happen? I don't think there is anyone as stingy as You in this world, Deva. You tie a rag around your head, sit in this Masjid and smoke a chillum, and then go around this village begging for food and eat it. Then how can You give me anything? Now everyone calls You God, but who made You God, but me? Otherwise everyone would be calling You a begging Fakir."

Sai Baba was calm during this outburst from his dear Shamyaa. He Sai, " Shama Money is not for you, your mission is quite unusual."
