Shama and religious texts

When Sai Baba spoke most people felt that all the attention gathered on their ears and the wandering mind got concentrated without effort. The words would pierce deep inside the heart and soul. Shraddha (Faith) and Saburi (patience) developed by the power of grace around Shri Saibaba.

The words seemed to pour out from the deepest of divine knowledge and those who use to study religious books and books dealing with spiritual subjects felt that all that was written in those books was coming out of Sai Baba's mouth, many a times in much more simplified manner. Sai Baba was never seen reading any scriptures or books. The knowledge came out of the real source. Sai Baba did not require any book study, it is well know that He knew everything that had happened, that was going and about to happen.

Sai Baba would tell if anybody was reading any scripture, and what he was reading, whether it was from one of the many religious scriptures from Hindu traditions or holy Koran or any other spiritual text from any other religion.

Sai Baba was never for any particular religion. What mattered was the development of divine and sacred qualities in his devotees. No particular set path but hundreds and thousands paths each according to devotees need. To many He guided to read spiritual books, to many egoless seva (service), later he allowed His puja and Aratis as a means to spiritual development, to some meditation in solitude, to some worship, prayers, namasmaran in form of chants, surrendering to God’s will, alertness of self, …………

Reading of religious scriptures was advised to many. Devotees use to bring religious scriptures like Dassavatar Charitra, PanchRatna Gita, Gyaneshwari, Ramayana, Guru Lilamrut, Sant Lilamrut, RamVijay, to Sai Baba, with the desire that He touches the book and return it back. The devotees on reading these scriptures that were sanctified with Sai Baba's touch found to be more fruitful.
Many a books were sent through Shama, as with many other requests were made through Shama to Sai Baba. If the devotees were a little hesitant to put a subject in front of Saibaba it was Shama they requested . Scriptures and religious books sent through Shama were returned by the Sai Baba to the ones who gave them or sent them. However, this was not the case with every book.

Many times the books were not returned, and those book were given to Shama. Sai Baba used to give all these scriptures to Shama, many a times forcing Shama to do so. He would say, 'Keep this in our office, it will be of good use.'

Incident about Shama being given the sacred and religious books are given in the sacred text, Shri Sai SatCharitra chapter 27.
